Doing Something Grand

Groups across the United States are doing something grand for Grandparents Day! Here are just a few of their great activities and events.

Springvale, Maine. The Sanford-Springvale YMCA will host a Grandparents Day 5K run on Sun., Sept. 7, to benefit Partners for a Hunger-Free York County’s Farm Fresh Foods for Seniors project. In addition to the 5K run, the event will include a one mile walk, free kids fun run and other activities for people of all ages and abilities. The proceeds will go toward senior farm shares and support the promotion and implementation of healthy eating an dactive living for York County’s aging population. Learn more

Bad Axe, Michigan. Last year, singer/songwriter Johnny Prill wowed his audience with his concert event, “A Song for Grandma and Grandpa.” This year, he’s at it again with another family-friendly affair at Courtney Manor Nursing Home. Read last year’s highlights.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. The Pittsburgh Zoo and Aquarium is offering free admission, tram rides and one coffee or tea to grandparents who are accompanied by a grandchild on Sept. 7.

Roanoke, Virginia. The Virginia Museum of Transportation is celebrating grandchildren, grandparents and everyone in between on Sat., Sept. 6, with train rides, crafts and fun. Learn more
